RAW CAT FOOD RECALL
We want you to be aware of the following urgent food recall from Feline’s Pride: Feline’s Pride is announcing a voluntary recall of Feline’s Pride Raw food with ground bone for cats and kittens, Natural Chicken Formula, Net Wt. 2.5 lb (1.13 kg, 40 oz), produced on June 10, 2010. Feline’s Pride is recalling this product because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. The product is packaged in uncoded plastic containers and sold frozen.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a group of bacteria that can cause illness in people and pets. People and animals can be infected with Salmonella from contaminated raw food, including meat and unwashed fruits and vegetables. Salmonella infection is a common cause of food poisoning. Infections can also be passed along from contaminated feces. Exposure does not necessarily result in illness.
If I’ve purchased the product, what should I do?
Do not feed the product to your pet. Immediately dispose of the product in a safe manner. For example, wrap the product in a plastic bag and place it in a securely covered trash can.
How do I know if my pet is infected?
If your pet is infected, he or she may seem tired or experience diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Other things to watch for include decreased appetite and abdominal pain. Please keep in mind that even if your pet is not experiencing any signs, he or she can be infected and can pass bacteria to other animals or even people. How can Salmonella affect me and my family?
When infected, people can experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, minimal diarrhea, fever, and headache. Children, elderly people, and individuals with fragile immune systems are more likely to become ill and may experience more severe symptoms.
What should I do if I’ve come in contact with the product?
If you’ve purchased this food, you should immediately wash your hands and any surfaces that have come in contact with the product. In addition, if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of Salmonella infection, immediately contact your primary physician and seek medical attention. It’s also extremely important that you report any use of the product or illness to the nearest FDA office.
