Letter to the Editor (Palm Beach Post)

Your column in Sunday April 4, 2004, gave good tips for protecting furniture.
[Living with Pets - No need to sit idly while pets ruin sofa, chairs]We have 2 cats who are not declawed (I don't believe in doing that under any circumstance). I have placed three scratching posts throughout the house, so they have more than one place to exercise their claws.
Over the years of owning various cats, I have learned to choose furnishings with my cats in mind That means I have to know the fabrics that they would most likely ignore as attractive scratching posts (micro-weave fabrics, and even leather.)
Fabrics that are nubby and have a good "grip" are the ones I avoid. Also sisal rugs are out, because they are a natural magnet for hooking claws!
Oh, a few years ago I had a cat that threw up so mush, that my joke was, "I bought carpeting the same color as her cat food!"
